Faux Button Felt Envelope
Ingredients
- Felt square, 9x12" (Michael's, 29¢)
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks (Michael's)
- Scissors
- Button
- String or thread
- Velcro sticky back coins (Michael's)
Note: items without listed price were not purchased for this project.
Total cost: 40¢ per 4x6" envelope
(less if you buy felt on sale)
(less if you make smaller sized envelopes)
Protocol
Step 1. Felt Cutting
- Use scissors to cut felt to size,
as shown in the picture below
- Dotted line dimensions: 4" height, 6" width
- Rectangular area dimensions: 8" height, 6" width
- Triangular area dimensions: 2.5" height, 6" width

make a paper template of the desired size
& trace onto felt.

Step 2. Gluing
- Use scissors to cut bottom corners of felt,
as shown in the picture below.
- Use hot glue gun to apply hot glue to felt,
as shown in the picture below.

- Press down on glued edges for a few seconds.

Step 3. Velcro Closure
- Use scissors to cut velcro backing, shown below.
| Velcro coins, cut to size |
- Stick two pieces of velcro together.
- Remove one side of paper backing.
This exposes sticky side.
- Attach sticky side to top of triangle.
(this is the inside of the envelope flap)
- Remove other side of paper backing.
This exposes the other sticky side.
- Close the envelope flap & press down firmly.
This will stick velcro to body of envelope.

Step 4. Faux Stitched Button
- Feed string (or thread or yarn) through button holes,
as you would if sewing a button.

- Tie two ends of thread at the back of button.
- Use scissors to cut off extra thread.
- Use hot glue to attach button to front of
envelope flap.
