Beach Eggs

Eggs-piration.
A few months ago, I saw the first Easter eggs of the season and decided I wanted to make some. I bought all the supplies and eventually got around to making the eggs.

Inspired by Vintage Skye's beautiful whitewashed concrete eggs, seen HERE, I turned standard plastic eggs into charcoal sand treasures.

Charcoal Sand Eggs

Egg Centerpiece

Read on for a tutorial.

Charcoal Sand Eggs
Ingredients
1. Rustoleum 2X primer, White (Home Depot)
2. Krylon faux stone spray paint, Charcoal Sand
   (Michael's $5.40 after 50% off coupon)
2. Plastic eggs, 8-pack (99¢, 99 cent store)
3. Fishing line or thread
4. Coat hangers
5. Clothes pins (optional)
6. Cotton butcher's string ($3.50, Healthy Home & Garden via Amazon Prime)
7. Scissors

*Note: items without listed prices were not purchased for this project
Total cost: $9.89

Some Ingredients

Protocol
Step 1. Preparation
- Cut about 12" fishing line, one piece per egg
- Open eggs
- Place one end of fishing line inside eggs
- Close eggs
- Attach other end of fishing line to coat hanger
with clothes pins (or tie directly to hanger)
- Hang hangers in well ventilated spray painting area

Colorful Eggs

Notes on Painting:
A few people have asked about eggs flying around while painting. These are my suggestions:
- Avoid painting on a windy day
- Hang each egg on a different length of fishing line
  (as in picture above)
- Wear a disposable glove on one hand
- While spraying, use the gloved hand to hold fishing
line about 2 inches above egg.

The beauty of textured spray paint: even if eggs bump into each other on accident, it's not noticable once the paint dries.

Step 2. Prime
- Spray eggs with primer, per product instructions

Step 3. Paint
- Spray eggs with faux stone paint,
  per product instructions
- Allow to dry

Spray-on Sand

Sandy Egg

Step 4. Finishing
- Do not open eggs
- Use scissors to remove fishing line from eggs
- Wrap butchers string around eggs & knot

Extra Vase

Fill vase with shredded documents

  11. OMG... I thought your craft end after seeing the step 1 photo... (the colorful eggs look so adorable hanging there...it's already a work of art with statement)... but more "OOOOH" after seeing the final transformation. Nice job! I like glitter...may be I will add some after the spraying process! Love, PC - Penang Malaysia
